May in Charleston SC - Google is Still Coming!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the special women in our lives: birth mothers, adoptive, foster, step mothers and all women who care for others. Don’t forget to thank them on their special day, May 13th. Another special date to mark on your calendar is May 28th, Memorial Day, a time to honor our military men and women. Okay, one more novel item about May. Three minutes and four seconds after two o’clock on the morning of May 6th, the time and date will read: 020304050607.

Google is coming to the Lowcountry, Adidas to the upstate and now Starbucks is locating a service center and roasting facility in St Matthews, about 15 miles outside of Columbia. The Cola residents will surely be able to tell when the wind is blowing from that direction. It’ll be interesting to see the effects of these industries. Greer has changed since the BMW plant moved in. A $290 million, 100 acre urban village-style complex was just announced for the area.

If there’s any list that you don’t want to be high up on, it’s the foreclosure list. Recently Nevada, Colorado and Georgia got the high “honors.” South Carolina did well, #41 out of 50.

Best Weekends, an ultra-savvy travel website, has just announced their first annual travel awards. Planter’s Inn was named the Best Small Hotel, noted for its location, restaurant and obsession with service. The Best of the Best Destination of the Year-Guess Who? “Charleston has enough charm to fascinate millions. The moderate climate, close-by beaches, deep-sea fishing, intimate sense of history, stunning architecture, world class golf, wonderful accommodations and terrific restaurants make Charleston the top choice for your best weekend.” What a great review!

Best Weekends also hunted the Best Burger and ended up with a three- way tie. The common thread here was tender, run-down-your-fingers juicy burgers on soft rolls. And the envelope, please: Your Place, Charleston, SC; Burger Joint at the Parker Meridian Hotel in NYC and Mrs. Bartley's Cottage in Cambridge, MA.
